RCR Mounting
RCR Mounting Instructions
RCR Mounting Instructions:
Please use the guidelines below for mounting the Trijicon RCR.
Required materials:
- Trijicon RCR
- Included Trijicon mounting card and tool
- Loctite 242 or Vibra-tite VC-3 (recommended)
- Acetone
- Q tips / cotton swabs
Mounting Preparation:
- Using the Acetone and cotton swab, clean the screw holes of the slide or mount thoroughly and ensure the threads are free from dirt and oil. This is important as any oil or debris can affect the Loctite and thread bond.
- Let the acetone dry completely after cleaning before continuing mounting.
- Confirm mounting interface – plate or direct mount? If a plate, make sure it’s installed properly and is secured. Also check the recoil bosses to make sure they align correctly with the optic to ensure the optic is secure on the platform.
- Identify the blind hole (closed hole) and the open hole (no bottom).
Mounting Procedure:
- Apply Loctite to the capstan screw (for the open hole)
- Apply Loctite directly into the blind hole and puncture with small drill bit or the torque tool (this prevents the Loctite from blowing out the hole)
- Using one of the methods below mount the RCR to the slide:
- Single screw method – place one prepared screw in the screw hole and slide the optic on, then place the second prepared screw into the other hole, ensuring recoil bosses are seated properly.
- Double screw method – place both prepared screws in the optic and seat it on the platform, ensuring recoil bosses are seated properly.
Alternate tightening down the capstan screws until both are fully seated.
- Place the torque card into the slot, then place the torque tool into the capstan and tighten 4 marks past the starting point.
- Repeat this step on the other side.
- Repeat this method one more time almost pushing the tool to the point it starts to bend dramatically, then repeat on the opposite side. NOTE: Doing this ensures that the capstan screws are firmly secured.
- Once mounting is complete, let the Loctite cure for full 24 hours before use.
Troubleshooting:
If the screws come loose check for the following:
- Ensure there is Loctite on the screws and it had cured for a full 24 hours
- Ensure you have used the proper length capstan screws (see guide below)
- If the screws are too short, there will not be enough thread engagement.
- If the screws are too long, the capstan screw could bottom out resulting in a false torque reading.
- Check recoil bosses.
- Ensure recoil bosses are fully seated and have good purchase inside the recoil holes.
- Ensure recoil bosses are not loose. Some manufacturers use a universal mounting system that has the operator move the recoil bosses around depending on the desired bolt patterns. If you have one of these systems, it is recommended to use Loctite on the recoil bosses to prevent movement.
- Inspect the plate
- Ensure your plate is secure and not moving, some OEM plates tend to move, and this affects the optics ability to stay mounted.
- It is recommended to use aftermarket plates, as they typically perform better than OEM plates.
