THE RCR® THAT SURVIVED A MOTORCYCLE CRASH

IT WAS 9 PM.
JESÚS WAS MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH.
THEN HE HIT A PATCH OF GRAVEL.
On a warm, summer night in Pharr, Texas, Jesús Cobos threw his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R into fifth gear and waited to merge onto I-2—notoriously under construction for weeks, months, years.
Amazingly, there was no traffic. Unfortunately, there was no warning sign of a large patch of gravel in the middle of the road.
NEXT THING HE KNEW, JESÚS WAS SLIDING DOWN THE ROAD.
“I never saw the gravel,” Jesús says, “I got low-sided, slid about 30 feet behind my bike, then hit my helmet on the asphalt and blacked out.”

Luckily, traffic had stopped behind him. Jesús was able to slowly stand, assess his injuries, and scan his surroundings.
HE WAS MISSING HIS LEFT BOOT.
Jesús had road rash down the entire left side of his body (even though he wore a jacket, jeans and boots). His boot was missing. And his motorcycle had a hole in the engine block and no handles—they were lying 20 yards down the road. Then he remembered his carry pistol.
“I carry my Glock 17 and Trijicon RCR inside my waistband,” Jesús explains, “and they were still there. What’s amazing is that they actually protected my right side from getting road rash like my left side. The RCR looked like it took the brunt of the slide.”
Paramedics immediately assessed that a ride to the hospital was needed, as Jesús was disoriented and bleeding. But first, law enforcement had to commandeer the pistol and RCR™ for a later reunion. Jesús stayed in the hospital for one night but returned soon after to treat his head injury and chest pain.
REUNITED WITH HIS RCR™
Weeks later, Jesús was reunited with his Glock 17 and “new” Trijicon RCR™.
“I only had the RCR for a few months. And it was scratched up all down the right side. Metal was actually shaved off, so I assumed it was destroyed. I took it to the range and to my amazement, not only did it work, it was still zeroed in. It was crazy.”

Looking back, Jesús believes a higher power had a hand in his safety and recovery.
“When I looked at the RCR after the crash, the Bible verse on its side really hit home. It’s Isaiah 58:8.”
