Job Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and partake in functional teams to streamline packaging development process, including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing.
  • Work with the Manufacturing Engineering team to lead process improvement initiatives and mitigate packaging errors.
  • Responsible for dunnage during all stages of manufacturing including outside processing, in process WIP and special projects.
  • Research, recommend and apply technologies to simplify process and increase quality controls.
  • Troubleshoot new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials and processes and provide creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics of item, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging.
  • Establish standards and guidelines for supplier evaluation.
  • Work closely with global suppliers, engineering, product management, operations, and sourcing.
  • Identify and implement cost saving initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage.
  • Work closely with Engineering to optimize packaging supply base for cost, lead time, quality, regionalization, standardization, supply assurance, and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.
  • Work with the manufacturing department to insure that the packaging designs are optimized for manufacturability.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive test plans to ensure that packaging exceeds customer specifications.
  • Complete moderately difficult assigned tasks on-time with moderate supervision or assistance.
  • Solve moderately complex engineering problems.
  • Collaborate with other engineering groups and disciplines within department, as well as with other departments
  • Other tasks as assigned

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Must have 2-4 years of experience in industrial or consumer packaging.
  • Detail oriented, creative thinking, problem solving and systematic diagnosis, self-motivated, excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written communication and oral presentation skills. 
  • Effectively interface with employees, customers, visitors, and suppliers.
  • Participation in at least one Small Project and one full-milestone project from inception through launch preferred – or demonstrated ability through prior experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of packaging design validation standards (ISO, ASTM, etc.), drafting and specification standards is essential.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in 3D CAD software is needed.

Education Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial or closely related engineering or packaging engineering is required

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding, follow detailed and uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete standardized situations.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
