Job Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the design of tools, process improvements, in process prints, and development of Control Plans.
  • Support machining team in making improvements.
  • Develop and improve machining methods, tooling/fixturing and machine designs.
  • Work closely with programmers to develop control plans
  • Complete in process prints once steps have been provided by Machining Programmers
  • Be a liaison between R&D, Manufacturing Engineering and Machining on new projects.
  • Development of work instructions and procedures for Machining and Deburring.
  • Trouble shoot the machining process to reduce the cycle time, downtime, changeover and scrap.
  • Participate / Lead root cause investigations into machining defects and downstream production scrap.
  • Support layered audits in machining to ensure compliance.
  • Provide capacity studies to determine the GD&T tolerancing can be accomplished with current capabilities in the department.   
  • Provide recommendations for new equipment, including specification information, evaluations and implementation.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance program and maintenance software.
  • Perform tool life studies to develop predictive tool change schedules
  • Use lean concepts and practices to help facilitate the transition to Lean Principles and continuous improvement philosophy in the machining department.
  • Support quality systems and structure including the development and improvement of inspection methods for new and current products.
  • Create and manage Quality initiatives internally and between departments.
  • Responsible for PPAP submissions
  • Maintain Machining Database
  • Utilize and maintain machine connectivity software to report department efficiencies and metrics
  • Other duties as required

Job Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing or other directly related discipline or a combination of education and/or work experience in a CNC machining environment.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending one or more of the following, educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies


  • Two to five years of engineering experience in a CNC machining manufacturing environment to include metals, lathes, CNC mills and product launch experience.
  • Demonstrated high level performance in current and previous positions.
  • Shown initiative, the desire to drive change and is motivated to exceed expectations.
  • Has a solid background in manufacturing principles, including Process, Information and Material flow.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T
  • Detail experience showing your strong interpersonal skills, good team player and-or leadership skills, and the ability to work across multiple lines of business.
  • Continuous improvement driven with a willingness to adopt new ideas/skills.


  • Creative thinking, detail oriented, and self-motivated
  • Problem solving and systematic diagnosis
  • Strong written, communication, oral presentation and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Organizational expertise is required in developing specifications, design and analysis documentation and presentation, cost, schedule and resource planning, coordinating with Production and Quality Assurance
  • Team orientation with the ability to influence others.
  • Hands-on preference to work in manufacturing floor area when necessary to resolve issues with all levels of personnel.
  • Ability to develop or embrace vision and strategies with a passion to win with people oriented processes as an inspirational leader
  • Understanding of Lean Principles
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional environment, gaining consensus and cooperation.
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure and on tight time lines
  • Ability to read and understand Engineering drawings or blueprints with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing experience

Solid Modeling:

  • Experience with Creo (Pro/E) solid models from physical parts (utilizing measuring devices such as a caliper, micrometer, optical comparator, etc.) or 2D drawings a plus
  • Experience with Creo (Pro/E) solid model from sketches or verbal descriptions of a concept a plus

Computer knowledge:

  • Creo (Pro/E), or earlier version a plus
  • AutoCAD 2019 or earlier version a plus
  • ERP, Maintenance, and Machine Connectivity software a plus
  • Basic Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office


  • Measuring devices such as micrometer, caliper, optical comparator, etc.
  • Machining Equipment such as Mill, Lathe, Deburring Equipment,
  • Experience working with a portable CMM
  • Scientific calculator


Ability to apply common sense understanding, follow detailed and involved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving concrete and undefined variables in standardized and unstandardized situations.
